Prato was under the etruscan dominion up to the V-IV century before Christ. Arts and artscraft are florishing during this time and Prato got also organized with its own army. Prato is pro Guelfi which got organized under the league of free tuscan cities. First ruled by the Angioini and then by the Guazzalotti the city exhausted by the plague, will be conquered by the florentine army in year 1350. In year 1512 Prato is devasted by the Spanish army. The belonging to the florentine republic in 1351 certainly did not stop the economic growth which starting from half way the XIX century developped a very strong fabric's industries. The work however did not absorbe totally the intellectual possibilities of Prato, which besides the artistic-historical achievements also offers remarkable cultural meetings of nation wide importance. |
